After billy beard rebuilt my 302 the waterpump went out and he re installed another one it was under warrenty so he did it and now i have the same problem i had beforethe gasket at the bottom of the waterpump is leaking and it only does it after the thermostat opens up when it is dead center in temp on gauge
gasket?
im also flushing the system it had orange coolant in it and it gumming up everything it seems like
is it important to keep a antifreeze/water mix rather than running just water?

If the waterpump is leaking at the gasket area... it's the gasket.

Yes running a water anti/freeze mix is important. It not only helps reduce temps then water alone, it's also a lubricant. No reason that "orange" coolant should be gumming up unless it's mixed with green.

the orange coolant is like 40 bucks a pop if i flush the system a couple of times and put green in it would it still gum up?
i allways thought that all coolant did was make the water not freeze when in extreme cold but now i know it also cools it
would adding coolant possibly seal up the gasket?

no, adding coolant will not seal the gasket.

And don't add that stopper adder patch bs. You just need to pull the water pump and fix the gasket if it is leaking.

No reason it should leak. They go 100K+ miles without leaking.

the water temp getting too hot would bust that gasket?

it's not likely. Improper installation is the most likely scenario.

After you flush the system and put the pump back on make sure you let the silicone/gasket maker dry before putting any coolant back in. I found out the hard way first time I changed one out. After that put in a green coolant/water mix and you should be good.

ive flushed the system 2 times and added straight water and the coolant is still rust colored from the orange coolant jsut a little bit
is it allright to pour green in it ?
i dont have the spare time to yank the water pump and replace the gasket it will have to wait for this weekend will it do me any good to put the green in it?

Is it just leaking right now? Is the car getting overheated when you drive it? I would think you might be able to just add some water until the weekend when you can replace it but I don't wanna tell you something that's gonna **** your car up. Someone with a little more experience might be able to step in and correct me.

i had no problems to the waterpump before i put the 180* thermostat in it and when i did put it in i drained the coolant and replaced with water it still had some residue from the old coolant in it and it would run fine then i flushed it again and put straight water in it and now i have a leaking waterpump gasket and it gets hot from my house on ramada to the highschool
it sucks not being a hoss in the parking lot cuz you dont want to overheat=[

Drain the best ya can, leave the cock pit open an car idling as you are running water out of a garden hose, you will see the water from the cockpit eventually turn clear.
YES, I would take the water pump off clean the block VERY clean, this is the most important part,USE ONLY atop quality gasket and sealer....
ALWAYS check the operation of a new thermostat before installin.....
Put a pan of water on your stove with a thermometer in it,as the water temp gets to you thermostat reading drop the thermostat in,it should open right up ,I have bought many new thermostats that would not open at there temp. rating,a STUCK thermostat will cause all kinds of problems/leaks...:)
I have used STANT thermostats for years with very little problems...

BTW. antifreeze does not cool better than water. Infact if you use pure antifreeze you may have an overheating issue. The good thing about antifreeze is it raises the boiling point of water.

Most antifreeze's that is the case. There are some out there though that contain the same formula as "water wetter" etc. which can drop the temperature. Not sure how popular they got though. I always use the cheap shit:D

Water Wetter itself, purple ice, etc. you used to have to drain all your antifreeze and just run that. In the winter though you were supposed to dump all your water again and put antifreeze back in.

well i drained it AGAIN and put antifreeze in with water a 50/50 mix and it is running cooler and it should last me till this weekend so i can put the waterpump gasket on
thanks for the help guys

water pump is bad.. it looked like it was leaking from the bottom of the gasket on the pump to cover but it was running out of the hole by the neck of the waterpump so now i get to buy a new waterpump :D this bad one should last me a while i just have to keep putting water in it every now and then

That is called the weep hole,an when the seal is bad it usually runs out this little hole..:)

Just don't run on it to long. I have seen those water pumps lock up when they start weeping.

s*it i have to wait till this friday to do the pump the onlything i can do is add antifreeze and water until then
and the seal went bad on it cuz i ran nearly straight water threw right
the antifreeze lube's the cooling system keeping the bearings sealed? right?

You should be fine.. Just saying don't run like that for 3 months.

Just add when you need to add and fix it next weekend.
