I'm trying to get a head count to reserve a time...post up if you are interested in driving around the speedway.

Laps for Charity II- Fans Get to Drive on the Speedway September 20

Hundreds of thousands of race fans watched some of racing's greatest drivers compete at Texas Motor Speedway during the Samsung 500 and Bombardier Learjet 550 race weekends. Now it is the fans' turn to drive on "The Great American Speedway!"™ during the annual Speedway Children's Charities Laps for Charity Saturday evening, September 20, from 5 to 10 p.m.

Laps for Charity gives race fans the rare opportunity to drive their passenger vehicles around the 1.5-mile superspeedway under controlled conditions. Participants will get to drive three laps around Texas Motor Speedway for a $30 donation to the Texas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities.

Fans participating in the September 20 Laps for Charity can enter the speedway infield through the South Tunnel. Participants' speed during Laps for Charity will be controlled by a pace car on the speedway. Participants must be 18 years old to drive in Laps for Charity and all passengers must be at least six years of age. All occupants of the vehicle must wear a seatbelt. Motorcyclists must wear a helmet and stay on the apron of the track.

Car club sessions (minimum of 12 cars) will be held from 5-7 p.m. Car Clubs must call (817) 215-8421 to reserve their session. Beginning at 7 p.m. the event will be open to the public and no reservations are required.

Participants will once again be able to have their picture taken in Victory Lane with their own car for a small donation of $10. Specail 5-lap VIP Sessions are also available. For more information on Laps for Charity contact Speedway Children's Charities at (817) 215-8421.

Three laps doesn't seem like much, but still sounds fun.

What's the speed?

The speed depends on the group you are with and how hard the cars up front push the pace car. We did 2 sets of laps last time, 1st set hit 115mph a couple of times. 2nd set I was 2nd car in line behind a Viper....he pushed the hell out of the pace car! I was doing 120-130mph on the straights quite often that round :D

They will try to keep you around 75-85mph, but if you show that you want to go faster they will speed up. It truly is an awesome experience being on the track and riding the banked turns.

Doesn't sound like much but loads of fun.....We did 6 laps last time. Well worth it. Can't beat 115 - 130 mph.

Sorry no one could make the event. It was really fun....I got some really good video and pics. I was only able to hit 110 mph this time since the Pace Car was driving like a grandma.

I wish I could have come

I haven't seen my dad in a few months and he put me on a guilt trip because I would rather go drive my car
